It has been a very interesting, and late, night at the 2010 World Series of Poker. Four events were underway tonight, but only half of them completed. Huck Seed won the Tournament of Champions and Daniel Alaei won his 3rd career bracelet.

Tournament of Champions Grind Finally Over

While many pros did their typical “thank you for the opportunity” speech at the end of the event, the one word that stuck out before the final table began was #clusterfuck. Ok, so that was from twitter. Nonetheless, the way that this event was handled was a bit of a mess. However, in the end we did get our champion.

Daniel Negreanu was going into the final table as the chip leader and I was rooting very hard for him either to bust or make it heads-up with Annie, and then still bust. Outside of that, I wanted to see either Jennifer or Annie win the event. When it was evident that wasn’t going to happen, I wanted my one remaining vote getter to win in Johnny Chan. Ah well, at least I got someone in the top three.

Gracious in defeat. At least it wasn't me that jinxed him this time.

I give props to Howard Lederer for getting heads-up and then the gracious way he took his loss. He said that Huck Seed played great, and while that is true, he got extremely lucky to win. Howard had him all-in and behind on the flop. Seed then hit running cards to make a straight and take the chip lead. Howard could never recover and Huck Seed is the champion.

The WSOP needs to revisit how they conduct this event next year. It does need to be better structured to avoid the “clusterfuck” as one called it. Harrah’s usually does a good job of fixing problems so I expect things will be improved next year, at least on the operation side of things. They cannot do anything about the “American Idol” side of things.

Daniel Alaei Wins PLO World Championship

Going into the final table of this event, it looked like Miguel Proulx was going to run away with this and his 2nd bracelet. However, Daniel Alaei hung tough and then took over things late to take down the event and his third gold bracelet. This was his 2nd Omaha bracelet as he won the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo bracelet last year. Now all he needs is a PL Omaha Hi-Lo bracelet to complete Omaha triple crown.

The Circus is Coming to Town

The circus comes to town in less than 9 hours. No, Melissa is not going to perform exhibitions with midgets. I am referring to the WSOP Main Event. Day 1a of the Main Event kicks off tomorrow and the number for Day 1a is anyone’s guess.

What will Friedman come up with for the Main Event?

Andy Bloch pointed out an interesting fact. The first five days of this event are scheduled to play only four levels. There is a possibility that we may not reach the money of this event until Day 5. Will the structure be revisited? Who knows. Just another story to follow.
