Contrary to popular belief, there is more going on this weekend than just parties.  Several events are still underway at the 2010 WSOP including the $25,000 NL, the $10,000 PL Omaha World Championship, and yes, event the Tournament of Champions.  Well, sort of.

Dan Kelly Wins $25,000 Six-Handed NL Event

Dan Kelly survived a strong final table to take down the $25,000 Six-Handed NL Event and over $1.3 Million in prize money.  To say he got lucky on the last hand was an understatement.  He was all-in pre-flop with A-10 against the jacks of Shawn Buchanan.  The flop and turn missed both players but the river delivered a crushing ace to send Buchanan home.  Kelly not only won the bracelet and $1.3 Million, but Doyle Brunson tweeted that Kelly is now going to be one of the “Brunson 10″ for his win.

Frank Kassela has all but won the Player of the Year after finishing 3rd in this event.  Several players have a shot to overtake him, but they pretty much have to win the Main Event to do so.  John Juanda can win player of the year by either finishing 2nd or winning the Main Event.  He will tie if he finishes 3rd.  Vladimir Shchemelev, and Michael Mizrachi  must win the Main Event to win player of the year.  Dan Heimiller is still alive in the $2,500 NL, so if he can make the final table of the event, he can make it interesting.  Otherwise, he also has to win the Main Event in order to win Player of the Year.  For the most part, it is pretty much all over but the bustouts.

Phil Hellmuth Causing Trouble Again

The Tournament of Champions was supposed to resume today at 7 p.m.  The only exception was if someone was deep in one of the other events.  Phil Hellmuth was still in the $10,000 PL Omaha World Championship.  That is when things got interesting.

First, the word was that the TOC would resume tomorrow.  Then, as Phil started to get somewhat short, they decided to hold off on that.  Then when Phil was the short stack they said they were going to play tonight as Phil was short.  Then Phil wasn’t so short and they said they were going to play one level during the lunch hour and resume tomorrow.

Well, nobody told Joe Hachem.  He went to bed.  Huck Seed seemingly vanished too.  So, as a result, play will resume at 11 a.m. tomorrow.  Phil Hellmuth controlling the destiny of the poker world.  What else is new.

Speaking of the $10,000 PL Omaha World Championship

While it is true that Phil Hellmuth is still in the PLO World Championship, so is Tom Dwan.  Dwan has been a yo-yo at times.  In a five minute span he went from top 3 in chips to short stack and back to chip leader yet again.  At present, Dwan is 9th in chips with just over a half million in chips with 18 players left.  Miguel Proulx is the chip leader.  He took down the $2,500 PLO Event earlier in the WSOP.  Jason Mercier is also fifth in chips.

Phil Gordon Wins Ante-Up For Africa

Phil Gordon wins a WSOP Event!!!  Unfortunately, this one doesn’t award a WSOP bracelet.  However, it did award $130,641 in prize money and all that went to the charity as Gordon was gracious enough to donate his entire purse.

The final table of this event was actually an interesting mix with Jerome Bettis, Erik Seidel, and Shannon Elizabeth joining Gordon.  Elizabeth was his heads-up opponent, but she was at a significant chip disadvantage.

This year’s field of 84 players was much smaller than previous AUFA events.  However, that still didn’t stop those that showed up from having a great time and donating to a very worthy cause.

There is a lot more poker left for tonight as the $10,000 PLO plays to the bracelet and the $2,500 NL plays to approximately the final table.  Tomorrow is the last preliminary day before the Main Event.  Stay tuned to pokerjunkie.com as we bring you coverage from the 2010 World Series of Poker.
