Day 21 of the 2010 WSOP is underway with four events underway and a fifth starting at 5 p.m. Day 1 of the $5,000 NL Six-Handed is underway in Pavilion. Day 2 of the Event #30 has broken the bubble and is schedule to play to a final table. The $10,000 Limit Holdem Championship is down to 11 players and the $2,500 PLO is down to the final 10 players.

Forgotten No Longer

Normally, once a player wins the Employee’s Event at the WSOP, they are pretty much forgotten about and other than maybe a mention in the following year’s coverage of the event (if there is coverage), the person is never heard from again.

No longer Mr. Irrelevant

That changed last night as David Warga became the first winner of an Employee’s Event bracelet to actually win a bracelet in an open event. He took down Event #27, the $1,500 Stud 8 or Better Event. While the bracelet win wasn’t in a “sexy event” such as World Series of Poker Texas hold em, it is still an open bracelet. Warga won his Employee’s Event bracelet in 2002 when the event was still a Limit Holdem Event.

He’s A Poker Player – Name’s Matt Stout

Matt Stout made Day 2 of Event #30, the latest $1,500 NL Event here at the Rio. He started the day with about 70k in chips and has made the money in the event. I stopped by to see how he was doing and wished him well. I also reminded him that I picked him as a breakout bracelet winner this year. His reply was classic:

“Yes, I am playing this WSOP so that I can improve the street cred of James Guill. That’s EXACTLY why I’m here. Oh yeah, and also to spread the word of Zombie Jesus.”

Ok guys listen. I need you guys to multiply by about 10. And Zombie Jesus Loves You

Amen brother. Amen.

Keeping One’s Priorities in Check

Annie Duke announced on her Twitter account that she will be skipping the Heads-Up Championship on Friday so that she can spend the day with a couple of her kids before they leave on a trip. For some reason, some people are blasting her for choosing her family over poker.

She is her kids mom.

What the fuck are some people thinking? I don’t care how good of a poker player that you are, your family is more important. There are too many people that will overlook their kids for the sake of making a buck, or less. The fact that Duke is willing to put her family over poker should be commended. Those that don’t get that should reevaluate their priorities.
