It is yet another late night here at the Rio. The Six-handed NL Holdem event is plugging right along and Day 2 of the $1,000 NL is down to about 13 tables at the time of this writing. Andy Black, Will Failla, and Victor Ramdin are all deep in that one. The NL 2-7 Event just finished with Yan Chen taking the bracelet. I was there to get the following pic of the new bracelet winner.

Chainsaw Signed by Doyle’s Room

The other day, Allen Kessler was handing out cards to various members of the media including myself. Honestly, I didn’t think too much of this due to the fact that sites will sometimes sign pros for the WSOP or for certain events.

Today, Allen came up to me and said “I give you the exclusive and you don’t report on it. I’ve signed with Doyle’s Room.” My reaction was “Seriously? You’re not just signed through the series?” He replied that he wasn’t and that he has a deal with Doyle’s room and will even be a bounty in their Wednesday tournaments.

Kessler has over $1.5 Million in tournament winnings and has two wins this year so far. He has also cashed twice thus far in the WSOP. He is also still alive in the $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo World Championship with less than 40 players left. While many knock Kessler for a style that many consider “nitty”, he still has made over $125,000 in tournaments every year since 2005. Say what you will, his style works for him.

While NL Holdem may be the country’s favorite poker game, watching a NL Holdem game can be about as interesting as watching paint dry, especially if most of the star power is in the $10,000 Stud 8 World Championship. While there are a few railbirds following the NL event, most are over here at the $10,000 Stud 8. The mix is between fans of various pros, fans of the game, and friends and family. Granted, part of the interest is due to the big names still in the field, but who cares. We have a nice rail for a Stud game. What could be better?

Earlier in the day, I was trying to get some shots of Cyndy Violette. She is still in my book one of the hottest women in poker, not just for her looks, but also for the fact she plays a mean game. She also has fun at the table. The last couple of times I took her pic, she tried to mess with me a bit. The last time, the pic came out making her look a bit creepy. This one was a little less psycho looking:

That’s about it for tonight. The Stud 8 World Championship will continue play and “may” reach the final table. Figure that to make the final two tables before play concludes. The $1,000 NL Event is not supposed to get to a final table today, but with the players left, who knows.

Tomorrow is Event #17, the $5,000 NL. Day 3 of the $1,000 as well as Day 2 of the Six-Handed NL kicks off at 2:30. The final table (or whomever is left) of the $10,000 Stud 8 World Championship starts at 3 p.m.
