For those of you not following the $1k Ladies Event at the 2011 WSOP, there is one man remaining in the field. At the time that I start to write this, Jonathan Epstein sits around 7th in chips with 12 players left.

He very well may be the first, and ironically the last, man to ever make the Ladies Event final table in the history of the World Series of Poker.

Does Epstein really top this?

Here is the question that many are asking: Is Jonathan Epstein the biggest douchebag in the history of poker?

Many would say yes to this. Matt Stout “eloquently” stated the following on his Twitter.

MattStoutPoker Here’s a big “FUCK YOU” to douchebag piece of shit Jonathan Epstein, who is deep in the WSOP Ladies Event. Hope you die.

In fairness to Matt, he did follow up that tweet with:

MattStoutPoker For the record, I don’t actually hope Jonathan Epstein dies. I just want lots of negative energy sent his way, and for him to fail in poker.

Jeff Madsen actually wants Epstein to win, but for an entirely different reason:

Even Epstein’s own sister Laura Lane is a little embarrassed for him:

I do not agree with Epstein playing in the Ladies Event.

With that said, I do not have the level of animosity towards him that some people out there have.

The reason being is, if you think about it, Epstein cannot win. It doesn’t matter if he takes the bracelet. He can’t win.

A vast majority of people are against him because he played the event. His mere prescience at the event turned probably 90% or more of the poker world against him.

Next, he would instantly become the poster child as to why laws are needed like the one recently passed in Nevada that allow casinos to exclude men from women’s events.

Finally, he will earn very little respect for his win.

This is one time where male chauvinism will actually be of benefit. Why? He only won the ladies event.

Normally, even I might say that such a statement is inappropriate, but that statement is the reality with most guys. Most males aren’t going to take his win seriously.

All he beat were a bunch of girls will be their take on the matter. So in a way, he will earn equal rights if he wins the event.

The right to be laughed at by men in poker, just like many do women players already. (Not saying it’s right, but it’s reality.)

Since writing the above paragraphs, Epstein has made the unofficial final table and, barring a total collapse, he will achieve the record. A record that can never be defended or repeated.

The new Nevada law will go into effect January 2012 and from what I have heard, the WSOP will enforce it next year.

Enjoy your run Epstein, and your possible new title of “Biggest Douchebag in Poker.”
