What to Expect at the WSOP
What can I expect if I go to the WSOP? I have been asked that by a lot of poker players over the last couple of years. Here are a few things to expect at the World Series of Poker.

"The Granddaddy of Them All."
First, the WSOP is a zoo of people. You really don’t realize how many people that there are until you go into the Amazon Room for the first time. When there is a large $1,500 NL event going on, this effect is magnified. Whenever we have a break during the event, I usually start doing my cow imitation as it looks like a herd of cattle making their way to the restrooms.
Next, expect to spend money. If you want some souvenirs, you will pay and in most cases a nice premium. Sometimes you can find some cheap specials. Last year, there was a t-shirt and hat combo for $16. However, everything there will be at least a little higher than you might expect. Just get used to that fact.
If you want to play satellites to win your way into events, prepare to wait in line. There will be hundreds of people wanting to do the same thing. In fact, there is even a room dedicated solely to satellites. This has helped to reduce wait time on satellites. Also, prepare to play only Holdem, even if you want to play satellites for something else. You can find some satellites the day before or the day of a particular mixed event, but Harrah’s does not go out of its way to offer anything else unless forced to.
Most pros are very approachable as long as you are respectful. This means two things. First, don’t bother them too much when they are either playing events or on breaks from events. Imagine how you would feel if you had 15 minutes to use the restroom or take a break from an event and had to deal with other people, most of whom you don’t know. Next, don’t try and be their best friend. There are so many people that think that because they see someone on TV that they know the person and who they are. Get your autograph and your picture and move on. If they are in a chatty mood, then go ahead and talk, but otherwise, let them loose.

You will see them come out in force for the Main Event and the Ante Up for Africa event. However, you won’t see very many leading up to the Main Event. Shannon Elizabeth is the one you will see most often in the preliminaries. She has been working on her game quite a bit and has shown flashes of being a decent player.

I wonder how many wannabe Poker players are gonna show their face, IE the movie stars. I enjoy watching these lovable stars getting destroyed by the real pro’s.
