Playing the Newts In Texas Holdem
Definition of Newt:
A. A small, slender, often brightly colored salamanders of the European genus Triturus or the North American genera Notophthalmu
B. Short for Newton, as in Newt Gingrich, former United States Speaker of the House.
C. When one holds the best possible hand in Texas Holdem
Wait, you don’t recognize the last one? Trust me, neither did those of us playing at the Binions 7 P.M. NL Holdem tourney tonight. Martin von Zweigbergk (aka Franke), chief honcho for PokerListings.com’s WSOP coverage, and I were playing at the same table and after a certain hand, he tells us “I had the newts.”
We all start laughing and go, “What? What are the newts?” Another fellow went “This isn’t Sweden son. It’s the nuts.”
To cut him a little slack, he is from Sweden. Perhaps he had pocket nines and thought they looked like little newts. Perhaps he had a couple of Geico cards in his pocket. Who knows, maybe he is a US political fan and has Newt Gingrich’s books.
In either event, it made for a very fun evening prior to the start of the WSOP. For those of you know Franke, please feel free to harass him.
See Franke, I told you I would blog about this.
