2010 WSOP Moved to Bucharest – Not OK!
Moving the 2010 WSOP from Las Vegas to Bucharest, Romania, cannot be good for poker. But the dice have been thrown and players follow suit.
People have been arguing that The Rio isn’t a worthy successor to legendary Binion’s Horseshoe Casino.
While this point can be argued, very few had wished for the WSOP to end up in Romania, Europe, I’m sure. Most of all if Casino Ceausescu is as bad as rumor has it.
Brutal change of plans
The sudden change of plans will cause a host of problems for thousands of poker players. Some of us have already booked our hotels in Las Vegas for this summer’s poker bonanza.
What are we supposed to do now?
You should put this questions to Giovani Becali, prosperous Romanian businessman and owner of the Steaua Bucharest soccer team.
Everything has a price
According to unconfirmed sources, Becali put up an unknown but substantial amount of money to buy the exclusive rights to the World Series of Poker 2010.
Anyway, money talks and cash is king. With the new master, poker players simply have to go where the games are.
This summer they are in Bucharest, Romania, Europe. Enjoy.

EDIT: Apparently, it all started when Giovani Becali learnt that the $50K HORSE event was not on this year’s WSOP Schedule. He had been looking forward to winning it for Romania, an up and coming poker nation.
The incident took place during WPT Bucharest and was caught on video:
