2009 WSOP: Africa Is a Country Now?
In the 2009 WSOP country statistics it says one player came from “Africa”.
There was only one player from Guatemala. Other countries with one single registered player include Slovenia, Taiwan and Iceland.
And then there was this one player from a country called “Africa”.
According to Wikipedia, Africa is “the world’s second-largest and second most-populous continent after Asia.” It consists of around 60 countries, and more than 1,000 languages are spoken on the continent.

Of course, it would be absolutely overwhelming for you people in the WSOP staff to type in 60 countries with strange names like Egypt or Sudan.
But it was only this one single player. Maybe that was a challenge you could have mastered?
However, the country of South Africa with 23 players got its own line in the statistics, I’ll give you that.
A small reservation
I actually have to end this irony on a note of reservation: could it be that these countries were supplied by the players themselves?
For example, the list contains countries like “Italt”, “Central China” and “Ausralia”. One player even flew in from Wii.
I find it hard to believe the WSOP staff would make that kind of mistake.
