Duke Headsup Champion – Women Rule

Annie Duke won the national Headsup Championships after defeating a number of guys. The guys weren’t even good looking.

Joking apart, winning the NHC truly is a great feat by Duke. We knew she’s sharp and plays an awesome game of poker; but this establishes it further, if anyone had any doubts.

Someone please give me a little resistance

Like the hordes of patronizing male players who themselves never won a $5 sit-and-go but who are still competent enough to invalidate Duke’s game completely. Not to mention her person. Or body.

“Women can never learn to play this old macho game properly.”

Guess what, that’s not gonna cut it anymore. Duke’s the proof of this (if a top notch pro like Harman hadn’t already proved it.)

On her way to the victory, Duke defeated the following men, in order of appearance:

  1. Darvin Moon
  2. Paul Wasicka
  3. Jerry Yang
  4. Dennis Phillips
  5. Erik Seidel

Now you may claim that some of these are “not-all-that-competent luck boxes”. But beating Erik Seidel in three final matches – you can never get around that. It’s just a damn fine achievement.
