In case any of you happen to miss it, Vanessa Selbst won the NAPT Main Event at the Mohegan Sun over the weekend. Yes, you read that correct. A woman won a major open tournament. She took down the event and $750,000.

She licked the final table for $750,000, and not in the good way.

So, I find it interesting that people aren’t making this out to be more of a big deal. Is it because Selbst has been successful already in her poker career? Is it because it was so soon after another woman, Annie Duke, took down a major event? Or is it because she is a lesbian?

Ok, I seriously doubt it is because she is a lesbian. I do find it odd that Wicked Chops Poker chose to consistently focus on that fact. Who really cares if she is a lesbian? How does that affect her poker game? Does it make her “more manly?”

No, the reason Selbst won is because she plays strong poker. I have even heard it said that she “plays like a man.” If playing like a man means that she is incredibly aggressive at the tables, then ya, maybe that is the case. Selbst can play the game and now has a NAPT title to go with her WSOP bracelet.

Then again, maybe the guys over at Wicked Chops are extremely horny. Maybe that is why they focus so much on her being a lesbian. Perhaps they find her “extra hot” now. If that is the reason, then ok, I will accept that.

Maybe now instead of worrying about her “playing like a man,” maybe we should learn how to “play like a lesbian.”
