2010 WSOP Trip – Day 4 – Viva Las Vegas
So I wake up about 9:15 A.M. this morning. I refer to anytime in the morning as “stupid o’clock” in the morning, so being up this early is a bit unusual for me. What I didn’t know is that Arizona doesn’t observe Daylight Saving Time and as a result, I actually was up at 8:15 A.M. I left at 9 and started on my way to California. (I’ll explain why in a bit.)
I don’t know why, but McDonalds in Arizona does not have ham or chicken biscuits. WTF! I hate sausage biscuits so I left and wound up having “breakfast” at KFC of all places. Anywho, I started heading to California. The normal route to Vegas takes you through Hoover Dam. There has been construction going on for a couple of years to create a bypass for the dam, but it slows down traffic. When I drove out last year, the construction and “tourist” delays slowed me down to the point that it took me 2 ½ hours to travel through the dam area. During the day, I had no clue how long this would take. As a result, I took I-40 into California and then took 95 North back into NV to hit 93.
I ended up getting “searched” at the California state line. Pretty standard stuff with them having me open my trunk to make sure I am not smuggling illegal stuff or any illegals into the state. Other than that, not much to report from the drive into Vegas. I finally got here about 5 and met the person I am renting from. Basically think a young Joan Rivers but without the nasty attitude.
To say the place I chose to rent is nice is an understatement. It is basically a wing of a house that has been converted into an apt. The main house is huge and the “back yard” is a combination pool area and bar-b-que area. The owner had me go to the sitting room which has a bar. The door to the room was basically a door made into the panel of a wall. Think about the door to the oval office that is used in many movies. The garage has a vintage Ford from about the 30th in pristine condition. My wing is nicely furnished and I have a 60 inch big screen TV. I see why she normally gets $1,000 per month for the place. (No, I didn’t pay that much.)
I haven’t played anything out here. For the most part, I have just kicked back and relaxed. I also cruised the strip and played my favorite game of “Spot the hooker.” Of course, I started the game on Boulder Hwy so I already had several spotted before going to the strip. Ill probably head out to the Orleans tomorrow for their Noon H.O.R.S.E. tournament. Haven’t quite decided on the weekend as of yet.
In either event, I have arrived to fabulous Las Vegas, my summer home.
