Saints Win and M*A*S*H Record Falls
Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for their winning the Super Bowl. Indianapolis played horribly the 2nd half and the Saints took advantage. On my Facebook, I stated that Tracy Porter is New Orleans’ version of Kirk Gibson. I actually saw both the Porter return and the Gibson home run. I must admit that Porter’s return was prettier to watch. Chances are that Porter’s whole career will be defined by that return much like Gibson is primarily remembered for his home run. Then again, there are worse things to be remembered for.

After 27 years, the MASH record falls.
The main thing that upset met about the Super Bowl was the fact that yesterday’s game is now the holder of the record for most viewers of a single television program in history. M*A*S*H held the record until last night when 105.97 Million people turned in to watch the series finale. Last night’s Super Bowl finished with 106.5 Million viewers. You have to give M*A*S*H credit, their record stood for 27 years. At the same time, one must consider the fact that there are probably five times the number of televisions in the US than there was in 1983. The season finale of M*A*S*H still had a higher percentage of televisions tuned in than this year’s Super Bowl by those numbers. Regardless, the longevity of the record is a testament to one of the best shows ever. The finale’s of Cheers, Seinfeld, and Friends couldn’t do it. I wonder how many years that M*A*S*H will stay in #2 as I don’t see a story as the Saints coming along again anytime soon.
Hopefully we will be talking about Washington next year in the Super Bowl as opposed to the Saints. I will also accept the Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl.
Rumor has it that Phil Ivey dropped a cool Million on the Colts. Maybe he can play Drew Brees heads-up to recoup some of his losses.
Not a lot going on in the world of poker lately. Jeff Madsen took down the Main Event at the Borgata Winter Open last week and the LA Poker Classic is going on currently. Otherwise, it has been a really slow week or so.
Only 8 days until pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training.
